Unpalatable soup changes

In reference to the Cream of Mushroom soup change of taste and quality .

It looks more like a gelatinous mass of pale bile more than anything else .

The consistency has changed and the taste is quite off-putting . So much so that after 45 years of buying and enjoying the taste of Cream of mushroom soup those days are coming to an end .

The remaining 2 dozen cans are going to the food bank .

If I recall Campbell's soup tried this once before maybe 15 years back and the results were the same . Time to look elsewhere .

I used to love it, then they changed the recipe and it tastes like cornstarch and flavouring is all they use to make it. If something good is changed for the worse, of course sales will go down. If you need vegetarian, create a new soup, don't wreck the old one people loved with the cream and chicken stock.

Cream of mushroom soup is NOT the same, and I agree with your comments, it was a favourite, not anymore and so sad why they would change a good thing.

Cream of mushroom soup has changed

For the past 30 years I have enjoyed making pork chop casserole with Campbell's cream of mushroom soup. It was always a real favourite.

A few years ago I happened to be shopping in the US and picked up 2 cans to add to the other two (canadian) fans I had at home, for supper that night. When I opened the US cans there was an odd smell to the soup but knowing that Kraft dinner and come tasted different, I just thought oh well, I'm sure it'll be edible. It wasnt. The taste was unbearable.

No one could eat it so the whole lot got thrown away. We thought the two U.S. cans might have been bad. We bought it once more from the US at another store and it was the same offputting taste.

A bit like that nauseating microwave popcorn smell that only a few people can't abide. How relieved I was that i could still get the Canadian version. Now a few years later, I wonder if it's changing to the awful version. Today I bought 4 cans and noticed two small changes.

The texture was slippery and smooth with less viscosity, and the taste (not like the American stuff) was creamier in a fake way, plus the mushroom flavour was way less.

So my fear is that it will get worse. Is it time for me to make it from scratch?

Today for the first time I bought Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup to make Tuna Noodle Casserole. First taste, something was different, not in a good way.

Second taste, yuck. I too thought maybe it was a bad can. Then I read these comments.

It is going to the dogs, they will be happy, but I am not. Never buying it again.

Yea i just noticed this after stocking up again . its not the same .

I noticed the same thing. I usually by it on case sales and the last one is still in my cupboard after 1 year.

It was my go-to for a quick flavor to various things such as sauce for fries, or mix with steamed rice or a topping on breading cutlets or simply as a soup. I would lick the spoon after taking it from the can. It is horrible now.

Pasty like having had flour added. I have gone to no-name brands and homemade now.

Yes! I bought cream of mushroom a few weeks ago and I must admit, I had not done so in many years but I was making tuna casserole.

I thought what the heck, what is this slop. Where is the mushroom flavor?

When did they change this? So now I have to make my own from scratch and that is a hassle for just a one can serving eh.

At best the new formula is more water than cream. First time in decades I'll need to try other brands.

what is going on, besides the demand all over the internet for my favorite soup, you discontinued a soup that has been around since early 60's. Please bring it back, I have sooooooo many recipes using this soup. '

At least a dozen of the potato's in the chicken corn chowder were black or questionable. Called c/s, put on hold with ear piercing, screeching, repeat "music" - for hours!!!! Called back at different times over several days, same thing. Campbell Soup 800 257 ****. Obviously they don't value or need customers. There are other choices. Done.

Mushroom soup has changed drastically! Horrible!

Bought a case Campbells Cream of mushroom soup like usual and this case is the worst soup I have ever eaten! WTF did you do to the soup??? Have been eaten this soup for ever and I want to know WTH you have done to change it? Whatever you did to change it, it is not working, go back to original recipe PLEASE!

I grew up eating campbell's soup. The tomato soup is one of my favorites until now! It does not have the same bold tomato taste , color is lighter and it has a foamy taste, not smooth like beofre. Please bring back the original receipe. Sincerely, Deborah Rogers

Mushroom soup not the same

For years I have loved only Campbells mushroom soup and I am so upset that they change the recipe its like this thick gluey mess and doesnt have the same creamy taste. Go back to the original recipe

I agree. I went so far as to call them.

The person I spoke to was blithe. She claimed nothing has changed. That, more than anything, upset me. It is clear they have lowered the quality.

The mushroom soup resembles the cheaper soups , the no name brands, the tasteless condensed cornstarch kinds. Its less solid, more gelid. I don't imagine they would care to advertise it if they were lowering the quality. And if they needed to that badly, they must have had to.

I hope if we purchase more often , they may raise the quality again, but sadly, it may be unlikely. I would have loved to have seen them continue the organic line of it.

Soups are great!

Where the heck are the soups at the grocery stores??? There are the old standards, but the stores haven't any specialty soups any more... We have found some in other towns! All Grand Forks Hugo grocery stores haven't stocked many kinds at all! Are you not making specialty soups any more?

Im an over the road driver and rely heavily on canned soups. I tried the Campbells Chunky that comes in the plastic bowl with the perferated lid. When I attempted to open by pulling on the tab, one side broke almost cut me and sloshed soup everywhere. I didnt have any tools clean enough to try to continue opening it. I was finally able to pry it just enough to pour into a mason jar. Campbell needs to look into a safer way to open these cans with the tabs breaking.

What happened to Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup? The recipe has most definitely changed and this new stuff is a waste of money. In fact, its terrible. I wont be buying it again. Ive randomly tried a few cans and even a case thinking I just got a bad can-but no. Im very disappointed!

cambells changed their soup recipe.it now taste like ####.I have always bought it buy the case.I bet if i gave the rest of the case to the foodbank it would end up in the garbage.Even my mother wont buy your soup any more.
